Fresh off an upset of seventh-ranked and defending NCAA Champion LSU on Sunday, the University of Kentucky baseball teamwill play host to the Tennessee Tech Golden Eagles in a mid-week non-conference match-up on Wednesday, April 4, at 4 p.m., atCliff Hagan Stadium.
UK, 13-17 on the season, will be playing at home for the first time in five contests. The Cats are 5-6 in games played at Cliff HaganStadium this season, including a perfect 5-0 record versus non-conference opponents. Following Wednesdays game with theGolden Eagles, UK will return to the road for a three-game SEC series with Eastern Division rival Florida.
Sundays win over LSU marked UKs first win over a ranked opponent since the Cats upset top-ranked South Carolina in the 2000Southeastern Conference Tournament.
The Cats offense, which has come alive as of late, pounded out 31 hits in the three-game series in Baton Rouge. The increasedoffense production against LSU came on the heels of a season-high 22-hit performance at Xavier on March 28. Currently, fourWildcats are batting above the .300-mark, with Caleb Brock leading the way at .333.
The UK pitching continues to be solid, posting a team ERA of 4.56. In 262 2/3 innings, the Cats pitching staff has struck out 207batters.
Tennessee Tech enters the contest with an overall record of 11-17, but has won four of its last five contests, the lone loss coming toSEC East leader Tennessee. Kentucky will be the fourth SEC opponent that the Golden Eagles have faced this season The GoldenEagles are 0-4 against SEC schools.
Rob Corrado is the scheduled to be the starter for UK on Wednesday. Corrado, a 6-6 right-hander, is 4-3 on the campaign with a6.63 ERA.
