The University of Kentucky soccer teams will play a double-header on Monday, Sept. 17, at the UK Soccer Complex. The women will take on Murray State at 5 p.m., with the men facing Xavier at 7:30 p.m.
“This game will allow us to move back into competition after the events of last week,” men’s Coach Ian Collins said. “Xavier was scheduled to play in our tournament so this also will give us an opportunity to make up one of the games lost this past weekend.”
Both UK teams are returning to action after suspended games this weekend due to the terrorist attacks on the U.S. The men are 2-1-1 on the year and ranked No. 20 in the collegesoccer.com media poll and No. 25 in the National Soccer Coaches Association/adidas rankings.
UK is coming off a 4-0 victory over UNC Asheville on Sept. 9 and is led in scoring by junior transfer John Monebrake (three goals) and senior All-America candidate Ilkka Jantti (one goal, three assists).
The women have gotten off to their best start in school history at 4-0-0 and are ranked No. 15 by the NSCAA and Soccerbuzz.com. Kentucky is coming off a 6-0 triumph over Michigan State on Sept. 9. They are led by freshman Kathy Fulk, whose team-leading four goals is second in the Southeastern Conference, while junior Keri Boyce is second on the team with six points (one goal, four assists). Senior Susie Ledzianowski and sophomore Alli Haeussler have tallied two goals each.
In lieu of the normal charge, admission to the double-header is free, however, the UK Athletics Association will be accepting donations for the “Attack on America” fund, a fund set up for disaster relief efforts by the Salvation Army.
