Men's Basketball

Sept. 24, 2001

LEXINGTON, Ky. – Sam Bowie, the broadcast analyst for the University of Kentucky Radio Network, has resigned and will not return for the 2001-02 basketball season, Host Communications announced Monday.

Bowie has spent the last four years with the Network, providing expert analysis with play-by-play announcer Ralph Hacker. Hacker retired in July and was replaced by Tom Leach, the current play-by-play voice of the UK football team.

“We are most appreciative for the many contributions that Sam has made to our basketball broadcasts,” said Jim Host, chief executive officer of Host Communications. “Our listeners knew they were receiving credible analysis because of his excellent career at Kentucky and in professional basketball. He always will be considered a special friend to our company.”

Bowie was an All-American at Kentucky, leading the Wildcats to the 1984 Final Four. He spent 11 seasons playing professionally in the NBA and remains active in the standardbred horse industry in Central Kentucky.

His replacement has not been named.
