No. 16 KENTUCKY RESUMES SEC PLAY AT SOUTH CAROLINA

LEXINGTON, Ky. – The 16th ranked University of Kentucky women’s soccer team (7-2-0/1-0-0 Southeastern Conference) resumes SEC play this weekend as it travels to Columbia, S.C. on Friday, Oct. 7 for a 7 p.m. game with the South Carolina Gamecocks (5-2-2/0-1-0 SEC). UK will complete its weekend slate as the Florida Gators (6-2-1/2-0-0) welcome the Wildcats to Percy Beard Stadium in Gainesville, Fla. on Sunday, Oct. 7 for a 2 p.m. match.

Friday night’s game at South Carolina will be broadcast by SEC-TV with Justin Cazana calling the play-by-play and Heather Mitts serving as the color analyst. The match will be aired on Sunday, Oct. 7 at 4 p.m. (ET) on FOX Sports Net South, Channel 52 in the Lexington, Ky. area.

“These are two very important games for our team,” UK coach Warren Lipka said. “Anytime you play in the conference it’s significant, but after we dropped two games last week, it’s imperative that our athletes prove that they can refocus and bounce back – it definitely will not be an easy task at USC and Florida.”

The Wildcats own an unblemished 6-0 series lead over the Gamecocks, including a 5-1 victory at the UK Soccer Complex last season. In that game, junior forward Keri Boyce set the UK single-game shots record with 10 and scored the game-winning goal. The roles are reversed in the Kentucky-Florida series as the Gators hold an 8-0 overall mark over the Wildcats. Last year, Florida defeated Kentucky 5-3 in Lexington and 2-1in the semi-finals of the SEC Tournament in Athens, Ga.

UK, currently ranked 16th by the National Soccer Coaches of Association of America/adidas Coaches Poll, was off to its best start in the program’s 10-year history at 7-0-0 before losing 2-0 to Arizona State on Friday and 1-0 to New Mexico in Sunday’s finale of the Traditional Bank Invitational. Senior midfielder Susie Ledzianowski leads the Cats with five goals and one assist for 11 points, while senior goalkeeper Beth Wells has tallied four shutouts and brings a 0.67 goals against average into this weekend’s play.
