The University of Kentucky men’s soccer team travels to Ohio for a Mid-American Conference match with Bowling Green on Friday, Oct. 5. Action at Mickey Cochrane Field is slated to begin at 4 p.m.

UK (4-4-1, 2-0-0 MAC) has hit a rough patch in the schedule, dropping two consecutive 1-0 decisions. However, the Cats have gotten off to a stellar start in league play with a 3-1 triumph over Western Michigan and a 4-0 win at Northern Illinois.

John Monebrake, Antti Peltonen and J.D. Stephenson are tied for the team lead with three goals each, which is good for second in the MAC. Monebrake, who also has three assists on the season, leads the Cats in points as well with nine. Ilkka Jantti is on top with four assists, ranking second in the MAC.In goal, Brad Samelko has nabbed 42 saves, including a career-high nine at WMU, while allowing just 10 goals for a 1.03 goals-against average. In the MAC, he ranks first in saves and fourth in GAA.

Bowling Green (3-2-1, 1-1-0 MAC) is coming off a 2-1 loss at Akron and 1-0 OT victory at Buffalo. The Falcons are averaging just one goal per game with Tim Butler leading the way with two goals. Four other Falcons are tied with one goal each. In goal, David DeGraff has played every minute for BG, surrendering seven goals while collecting 31 saves for a 1.05 goals-against average.

The Falcons and the Wildcats have met 12 times in the series with BG holding the small 6-5-1 advantage. They last met for the 2000 MAC Tournament Championship. UK took the 1-0 lead in the 24th minute of that contest but was called for a penalty in the box with five minutes left in the game. Former Cat Brian O’Leary timed the penalty kick perfectly for the save to give Kentucky its second-consecutive title.
