KENTUCKY CONTINUES SEC PLAY AT MISSISSIPPI STATE
STARKVILLE, Miss. – The University of Kentucky women’s soccer team (9-5-0/3-3-0 Southeastern Conference) continues its SEC road swing as it travels to Starkville, Miss. to face Mississippi State (9-6-0/2-3-0 SEC) at 2 p.m. ET on Sunday, Oct. 21 at the MSU Soccer Field.
The Wildcats ended a three-game SEC losing skid by defeating Ole Miss on Friday, 2-1, at the Ole Miss Soccer Stadium. Freshman forward Kathy Fulk recorded a goal for the first time in six games to begin thescoring and senior midfielder Annie Gage sealed the win for UK, knocking in the game winner at the 42:35 mark of the first half. The goal was Gage’s 28th of her career, good for a second place tie with Carrie Staber (1995-98) on Kentucky’s all-time goals scored list. Kim LaBelle owns the record for goals scored at UK with 44 from 1994-97.
Vanderbilt (5-6-0/3-3-0 SEC) erupted for three second half goals, then held back a late surge by homestanding Mississippi State, to defeat the Bulldogs, 4-2, Friday afternoon at the Mississippi State Soccer Field. Kentucky has held MSU scoreless in three matches, going back to their first meeting on Oct. 14, 1995 in Starkville. Leading the overall series 3-0, the Wildcats have outscored the Bulldogs 11-0.
The game against MSU marks the final regular season road game for the Wildcats as they play host to Alabama next Friday, Oct. 26 at 7 p.m. and Auburn next Sunday, Oct. 28 at 1 p.m. at the UK Soccer Complex. The regular season will conclude with a home contest against Indiana on Friday, Nov. 2.
