The University of Kentucky women’s team dominated the doubles draw in yet another fall tournament on Saturday, October 20, at Vanderbilt University’s June Stewart Invitational.

The Wildcats were able to claim the doubles title in three out of four flights to continue their impressive play. Senior Carolina Mayorga and junior Sarah Witten were victorious in Flight 1 with their 8-4 win over Stacy Vernell and Manon Kruse of Middle Tennessee State. Senior Lauren Rookledge and junior Leigh Bradwell kept their unbeaten streak in tact and claimed their third title of the young season by defeating Vanderbilt’s Sarah Riske and Kelly Schmandt 9-8 in the Flight 2 final. Juniors Amy Trefethen and Jill Buckley easily walked away with the Flight 3 title by rolling Melissa Iqbal and Laura Burgarello of Purdue 8-3.

Trefethen, Witten and freshman Danielle Petrisko also earned spots for the Cats in Sunday’s singles finals. Trefethen bested 100th ranked Kate Burson to advance to the Flight 2 final, while Witten and Petrisko scored straight-set victories to move on in Flight 3 and Flight 7 respectively.

The June Stewart Invitational will conclude on Sunday, Oct. 21, with the finals of each singles flight. Competition will begin at 9 a.m. at the Currey Tennis Center in Nashville, Tenn.
