FARMERS BRANCH, Texas– The University of Kentucky’s brother and sister tennis duo of Jesse and Sarah Witten suffered losses in the second round of the Omni Hotels National Intercollegiate Indoor Tennis Championships. The Witten’s made tournament history as the first brother and sister duo to compete in the championship at the same time.

Jesse Witten, a freshman on the men’s tennis team, dropped to Andy Leber of Texas Arlington. After falling 6-7 in the first set, Witten was victorious, 6-2, in the second before dropping the final set, 4-6. Witten had defeated Leber in the third round of the All-America Championships on Oct. 12.

“For Jesse to have made it this far is a compliment to our program,” Coach Dennis Emery said. “I am proud of his efforts out there today and look to see more of that from him once the spring season begins.”

Sarah Witten, a junior on the women’s team, dropped her second round match in straight sets, 3-6, 5-7, to Sarah Borwell of Houston. Witten advanced after a first round victory in three sets over Aleksandra Durska of Tulsa on Friday, Nov. 8.

The Wildcats will take a break from action as they prepare for the opening of the spring season in January.
