Lexington, KY – The Marine Corps Reserve unit, Military Police Company A, has once again teamed up with the University of Kentucky Athletics Association for the 54th annual Toys for Tots Campaign.
The campaign will take place on Wednesday, Dec. 19, 2001 when the Kentucky women’s basketball team plays host to intrastate rival Louisville at 7 p.m. in Memorial Coliseum.
To assist this year’s campaign, bring one new unwrapped toy and gain admission for two. All toys collected will help the less fortunate children throughout the Commonwealth.
The game is also targeted as UK Employee Appreciation Night. All UK employees with a valid identification card will also be admitted free. All other adults are $5. Children (18 years old and under) and senior citizens (62 years old and over) are only $2.
The Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots program has come a long way from its humble beginnings in 1947, when Marine Reservists collected and distributed 5,000 toys to needy children in Los Angeles. As history has proven, however, Marines don’t do anything halfway, and with the support of a caring community, we are gearing up for what we hope will be our most successful Toys for Tots campaign to date.
