The University of Kentucky women’s tennis team begins its 2002 dual match season in a difficult fashion this weekend, Jan. 19-20. The 23rd-ranked Wildcats will take on four teams in two days as Cincinnati, Marshall, Middle Tennessee State and Miami of Ohio all travel to Lexington to face the Cats.

UK will take on Cincinnati at 10 a.m. and Marshall at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 19 to open the season. The Cats will then waste little time getting two more matches under their belts when they battle Middle Tennessee State at 11 a.m. and Miami of Ohio at 4 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 20. All four matches will be held at the Lexington Tennis Club.

“We are excited about finally getting the season underway,” Coach Mark Guilbeau said. “We are coming off one of this program’s most successful fall seasons ever. We are focusing on carrying that momentum into 2002.”

The Wildcat squad will enter this weekend’s play with a new face. Freshman Ola Luczak recently joined the team. Luczak hails from Melbourne, Australia and will look to add depth to an already talented roster.
