LEXINGTON, Ky. – The University of Kentucky men’s swimming and diving team has moved up a spot in the final results of the 2002 Southeastern Conference as one of the University of South Carolina swimmers was ruled ineligible, the conference office announced on Monday, March 4.
Kentucky, which had placed seventh originally, moved up to sixth after the Gamecocks had 180 points deducted from their team score for the use of the ineligible athlete. None of the events were reconfigured minus the ineligible athlete, so UK’s point total remains at 282.
The Wildcats are still hoping to send participants to the 2002 NCAA Championships. As a team, the squad has collected 20 NCAA provisional times, or “B” cuts. Sophomore Joey Faltraco leads the way for the men with four individual “B” cuts and is a part of the 200-medley relay team that also has recorded a provisional qualifying time. For the women, freshman Chrissy Miller leads the way with three individual times and is a part of the 800-freestyle relay team that has a “B” cut.
The Cats have one final opportunity to record automatic qualifying times this weekend when they travel to Auburn for a last chance meet, March 9.
