Boston, Mass. – Current University of Kentucky women’s tennis coach Mark Guilbeau and former UK tennis standout Christy Sigurski completed the 106th Boston Marathon on Monday, April 15. The 2002 Marathon marks the second consecutive year the pair has completed the world-renowned race.
Guilbeau is currently in his sixth season as head coach of UK and completed the race in 3:14:08. Sigurski, a two-time Academic All-American as a Wildcat, finished the marathon in a time of 3:15:30. She is a currently resides in Philadelphia and is employed by Lexmark.
“This was a great experience for both me and Christy,” Guilbeau said. “Christy ran like a champion today and it always special to be able to share something like this with a former player.”
This marks the ninth marathon for Guilbeau and his third Boston Marathon. Also running with Guilbeau and Sigurski was former Georgia Bulldog coach Tim O’Brien. O’Brien and Guilbeau were on the safe coaching staff when Georgia claimed the 1994 NCAA National Championship.
“Tim is a great friend and it was a lot of fun running with him,” Guilbeau said. “He gave a Herculean effort in this year’s marathon.”
