PHILADELPHIA – The University of Kentucky track and field teams took home two event titles on Friday, April 26, at the Penn Relays, one of the nation’s most prestigious meets, in Philadelphia, Pa. Sophomore Jeff Chakouian won the men’s shot put title with a throw of 64-03.25, while junior Simidele Adeagbo won the women’s triple jump with a 41-01.25 leap.
Chakouian’s toss was an automatic qualifier for the NCAA Outdoor Championships and was the best throw in the Southeastern Conference this year. Adeagbo’s win was her second of the season in the event after taking first at the Long Beach Classic in March.
Also faring well at the meet on Friday was freshman Molly Lonergan, who took sixth place in the women’s discus with a toss of 161-07.00, her second best performance in outdoor action. Bill Powers took seventh in the men’s discus with a throw of 163-05.00.
The women’s distance medley team of Olubusola Adeagbo, Jennifer Sauer, Beth Heimann and Caitlin Phillips finished fifth with a time of 11:44.67, while the men’s group of Jack Morgan, Chad Johnson, James Doaty and Justin Amason finished 11th with a time of 9:48.80.
Action continues through tomorrow in the meet. It marks UK’s final tune-up before the SEC Championships begin on May 9.
