Jasmine Camacho-Quinn Named Flag Bearer for Puerto Rico at Olympics Opening Ceremony

LEXINGTON, Ky. – UKTF Wildcat Jasmine Camacho-Quinn (UKTF 2015-18) has been named a flag bearer for Puerto Rico for the 2024 Olympic Games opening ceremony in Paris on July 26th.

The announcement came last Thursday from the Puerto Rico Olympic Committee where they confirmed Camacho-Quinn and wrestler Sebastián Rivera will represent the island to kick off the Olympics.

Camacho-Quinn, who won Puerto Rico their first Olympic gold medal in the 100-meter hurdles, told Puerto Rican newspaper Primera Hora she’s very excited about carrying the “Monoestrellada.”

“Honestly, I am excited,” she said. “It’s something big. I didn’t see it coming, and it means a lot to be the one to carry the flag. I am grateful, as is my family, who are super proud. I can’t wait for it to happen.”

After her success in Tokyo in 2021, Camacho-Quinn went on to win bronze and silver at the 2022 and 2023 World Athletics Championships and a gold medal at the Central American and Caribbean Games in San Salvador in 2023. She will defend her 100-meter hurdles gold in Paris in her third Olympic Games.

“I am focused on defending my championship and bringing back another gold medal,” she said.

The women’s 100-meter hurdles at the 2024 Paris Olympics Games begin August 7th with the final taking place on August 10th.
