Wildcats Among SEC Defensive Leaders: Defensive end Vincent “Sweet Pea” Burns and a trio of Wildcat defensive backs are among the leaders of the Southeastern Conference defensive statistics released by the league office.
Burns has 5.5 tackles for loss this season, tying Yahrek Johnson of Mississippi for the league lead in that category. Burns also has two fumble recoveries, tied for second in the SEC.
UK defensive backs Quentus Cumby, Leonard Burress, and Derrick Tatum each have four pass breakups this season. That ties them for fourth in the SEC in that department.
Short-Term Health Improving: The team’s short-term health is improving, Coach Guy Morriss said after Wednesday’s practice at the Nutter Training Facility.
Morriss said that linebacker Justin Haydock, who missed the last two games with a hamstring injury, and defensive tackle John Robinson, who missed the Middle Tennessee game because of an ankle injury, would return to game action Saturday at Florida.
Morriss also noted that cornerback Antoine Huffman, who sustained a broken thumb against Middle Tennessee, would be able to play with a protective cast. Wide receiver Ernest Simms, slowed by a groin strain, should be 100 percent by game day.
