Sophomore Evan Austin, ranked 65th in the country, was defeated Tuesday morning at the 2002 Icy Hot/ITA Men’s All-American Championships in at the Champions Club in Chattanooga, Tenn. He fell to Boise State’s Marcus Berntson, ranked No. 87, 6-3, 7-5, in the round of 64 of the qualifying tournament.

Austin, playing as the seventh seed in the bracket, needed to win three matches in the qualifyers to advance to the main draw.

Sophomore Jesse Witten and junior Karim Benmansour will play in the main draw, which begins play on Thursday, Oct. 10. Witten was selected as the No. 1 seed in the Championships.

Austin and Benmansour, ranked No. 22 in doubles, were given a seed in the main draw of the doubles tournament, also scheduled to start Oct. 10.
