Cats Picked Third in East, Fourth Overall
The Kentucky men’s basketball team was picked to finish third in the Southeastern Conference Eastern Division and fourth overall in the race of the league championship, according to a media vote at Wednesday’s SEC Basketball Media Day in Birmingham.
Media members from throughout the region picked the Wildcats, who were co-Eastern Division champs last March, to finish behind Florida and Georgia. UK has not finished lower than second in the SEC East since the league split into divisional play in 1992.
“I’m more concerned about where we actually finish, not where some may pick us to finish,” said Coach Tubby Smith, who has won three SEC Championships and three SEC Tournament titles in five seasons.
Overall, the Wildcats were picked behind Alabama, Florida and Georgia in the battle for the SEC crown. The Crimson Tide captured the title last season with a 12-4 conference record.
Blue-White Game
Kentucky’s annual Blue-White game will be played this Saturday, Nov. 2, at 7 p.m. in Memorial Coliseum. The team has been practicing six days a week since Oct. 12.
“After three weeks of two-a-day practices – both 6 a.m. and 3 p.m. – our guys are ready for a change and this Blue-White game will be a good opportunity for our fans to see how this team is progressing,” said Coach Tubby Smith, who’s beginning his sixth season at Kentucky. “With our first exhibition game just over a week away, this will serve as a good tune-up in front of a live crowd.”
General admission tickets are $5 and proceeds from the event will benefit the Boys and Girls Club. Seats are currently on sale at the Memorial Coliseum ticket office – 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday – online at ukathletics.com, or at the front ticket windows prior to the game. Seats also can be purchased by calling 859-257-1818 or 800-928-CATS.
UK students with a valid ID will be admitted free.
