Lexington, Ky. – The University of Kentucky men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams will be traveling to Chapel Hill, N.C., this weekend to compete in the Nike Cup Invitational at the University of North Carolina. The meet will be held Thursday, Nov. 21, through Saturday, Nov. 23.
Last year both UK teams finished fourth at the event. Junior Joey Faltraco was named the CollegeSwimming.com National Swimmer of the Week following his performance at the Nike Cup a year ago, highlighted by a first-place finish in both the 100-yard and 200-yard backstrokes. Faltraco also posted a second-place finish in the 400 IM. Senior Roger Watkins won the 100 and 200 breaststrokes at the event last season.
Sophomore Chrissy Miller swam well at the Nike Cup last season for the women. The Ringoes, N.J., native won the 500 freestyle and finished third in the 100 freestyle. Junior Shawna Sechrist took home a victory in the 200 backstroke and a second-place finish in the 100 backstroke.
“We usually compete well at the Nike Cup,” head swimming Coach Gary Conelly said. “This year we’re looking forward to the event. We’re capable of finishing in the top three if we swim well.”
