Lexington, Ky. – The Kentucky women’s basketball team hopes for an early Christmas present when it plays host to Morris Brown on Monday, Dec. 23 at 7 p.m. in Memorial Coliseum. Tickets are only $5 for adults and $2 for senior citizens and children (ages 18 and under). UK students, faculty and staff are admitted free with valid identification. The Memorial Coliseum ticket office is open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., or may be ordered over the phone by calling 859-257-1818 or 1-800-928-CATS (2287).
The Cats (4-4) already received one early gift on Saturday when they rebounded from an 18-point deficit to win in overtime 108-102 against Miami University. UK hit a season-best 78.6 percent from behind the arc, nailing a season-high 11 treys.
“I liked the way we came out in the second half in our last game but we have to start picking up the intensity from the start,” UK Coach Bernadette Mattox said. “Morris Brown is a quick team and we can’t come out flat.”
Morris Brown, located in Atlanta, Ga., travels to Lexington still searching for its first win of the season. The Lady Wolverines are 0-10 after falling to Austin Peay on Saturday, 92-45.Four freshmen and a junior make up the starting lineup for Morris Brown. Frosh Sheena Carpenter notched a team-high 18 points in the Lady Wolverine’s last game against Austin Peay. Morris Brown lost all five starters from last season’s squad that finished 3-25 overall.
Senior Rita Adams has emerged at the Cats’ leading scorer, along with sophomore Sara Potts, after dropping in a career-best 29 points on Saturday. Both players are averaging 14.9 points per game. Adams also leads the team in assists (51), steals (17) and blocks (13). Freshman Jenny Pfeiffer averages 11.3 ppg followed by SeSe Helm with 10.3 ppg.
Freshman Stephanie Stumbo and sophomore Jennifer Goin will sign autographs for 30 minutes following the game.
