Lexington, Ky. – University of Kentucky divers Michelle Brown and Jessica Thompson have qualified for the American Cup Diving Meet during the opening preliminary rounds on Tues., Jan. 7 and Wed., Jan. 8. The meet will be held Jan. 10-12 at Indiana University and is one of the most prestigious diving events in the country, with elite divers from all over the U.S. competing.

Brown, a junior transfer from Orange County, Calif., scored a 224.15 in the qualifying round of the 10-meter platform, the second highest total in the preliminaries. She entered the American Cup qualifying rounds after a fourth-place finish at the Georgia Diving Invitational on Jan. 3-5. She will compete on Friday in the first round of the women’s 10-meter platform.

Thompson, a freshman, finished fourth in the qualifying round of the three-meter springboard with a score of 227.55. The Matthews, N.C., native most recently finished fifth on the one-meter board at the Georgia Diving Invitational. She will be in competition on Sat., Jan. 11, in the first round of the three-meter springboard.
