2003 Women’s Soccer Signees’ Bios
The University of Kentucky women’s soccer program and Coach Warren Lipka announced the signing of three high school seniors to national letters of intent Thursday. Sarah Jervis (Lexington, Ky./Lexington Catholic), Elisabeth Jones (Nicholasville, Ky./Lexington Christian) and Whitney Stipetich (Liberty, Mo./Liberty High School) plan to enroll in UK’s Class of 2007 and begin playing soccer for the Wildcats this fall.
Jervis played for the three-time state champion Lexington F.C. Premier team, coached by UK assistant Tim Bennett. The defender is a two-time first-team All-State honoree. The captain of her high school squad, Jervis also earned honorable-mention Academic All-State honors.
“Sarah is going to be a complement to our back or wide midfield area,” Coach Lipka said. “She comes from a very successful club, a state championship team. I look for her to compete with our returnees coming into the fall season.”
Jones was a teammate of Jervis’ on Bennett’s L.F.C. Premier team. She named Miss Kentucky Soccer for 2002, while also being recognized as an All-American by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America. The Nicholasville native was a three-time Most Valuable Player at Lexington Christian Academy, where she holds the career record for most goals scored (83).
“It’s great to be able to sign the Kentucky player of the year,” Lipka said. “Elizabeth has great speed, attitude and dedication to the game. With our lack of front-runners, she will play a big role this fall.”
Stipetich has been a member of the Kansas City F.C. Revolution for the past six years. Twice the defender has been recognized as All-State by the Missouri Soccer Coaches Association. In 2002, Stipetich also played for the Missouri State U17 Olympic Developmental team. A member of the National Honor Society, she was a two-time varsity captain at Liberty High School.
“Whitney is a hard-nosed defender out of the Kansas City area,” Lipka said. “She is a very tenacious tackler and a good distributor of the ball. She will complement the players we already have in the back.
“This is one of our smallest classes, but we do have a lot of people returning,” Lipka added. “These players will fill the necessary holes and keep this team moving in the right direction.”
