LEXINGTON, Ky. – The University of Kentucky men’s and women’s track teams stayed in the rankings for the fourth week of the season with the women tied for 15th and the men ranked 14th in this week’s Trackwire Top 25.
The Wildcats, who played host to the Rod McCravy Memorial last week, have enjoyed a very successful indoor campaign in 2003. Women’s high jumper Janet Crawford remains undefeated this season and has set and matched her career high with a jump of 5-11.25, including a first-place finish last weekend. Teammate Simidele Adeagbo automatically qualified for the NCAA Championships in the triple jump during the first meet of the season.
On the men’s side, Kentucky continues to produce dividends in the middle distance and relay areas. Both David Freeman and Hunter Spencer automatically qualified for the NCAA Championships in the 800 meters at the SEC Challenge in January, while the 4 x 800-meter relay team of Thomas Morgan, Jean Balan, Hunter Spencer and Paul Ciurlys set a new school record for the event in early January.
The Cats take to the road for the first time this season on Friday, Feb. 14, when they travel to Fayetteville, Ark., for the Tyson Invitational. It’s Kentucky’s final tune-up before the Southeastern Conference Championships, March 1-2, in Gainesville, Fla.
