Opening Date of Spring Practice Changed: The date of Kentucky’s first spring practice under Coach Rich Brooks has been changed to Sat. March 29. A detailed calendar will be released later.

Reporting Dates Changed in August: Moving the date of the season-opening game vs. Louisville to Sun. Aug. 31 also affects the preseason reporting calendar. All reporting dates are now one day later. The newcomers will report on Tues. Aug. 5. The veterans will report on Fri. Aug. 8. Kentucky Football Media Day will be Sat. Aug. 9.

138th Anniversary of Lincoln’s Second Inaugural Address: This doesn’t have anything to do with Kentucky football, but today is the 138th anniversary of what many consider to be the greatest political speech of all time, the second inaugural address of a native Kentuckian, President Abraham Lincoln.

Given on March 4, 1865, near the end of the American Civil War, Lincoln sought reconciliation, not retribution, as he closed with these stirring words, “With malice toward none; with charity for all; with firmness in the right, as God gives us to see the right, let us strive on to finish the work we are in; to bind up the nation’s wounds; to care for him who shall have borne the battle, and for his widow, and his orphan–to do all which may achieve and cherish a just and lasting peace among ourselves, and with all nations.”
