Lexington, Ky. –

The University of Kentucky baseball team will take a break from Southeastern Conference action to play host to the Bearcats of Cincinnati Wednesday, April 2, at Cliff Hagan Stadium. Kentucky (10-17, 0-9 SEC) is looking to bounce back from a three-game sweep at the hands of the 16th-ranked Arkansas Razorbacks last weekend in Lexington. The game is Kentucky’s first since Head Coach Keith Madison announced his resignation, effective at the end of the season.

UC (8-17, 2-7 Conference USA) enters the contest coming off a 4-3 win over league opponent East Carolina after splitting a doubleheader with the Pirates on Saturday. The Bearcats face the Dayton Flyers today. Cincinnati is led by senior shortstop Brad Schutz, who is batting a team-high .282 and leads the squad with 18 RBI’s and six stolen bases.

The last meeting between the Cats and Bearcats took place May 1, 2002, but was called in the second inning of play due to inclement weather in the bluegrass. UC took the 2001 meeting between the teams with an 11-4 victory on April 25 in Lexington.

Kentucky will send junior Mark Galvin (2-1) to the mound, to be opposed by Cincinnati’s Mike Foley (1-0). Junior Spencer Graeter leads the Wildcats at the plate with a .343 batting average, 10 doubles and 23 runs. Graeter and the Cats are 10-8 against non-conference teams this season, including a two-game sweep over Kent State last week at home.Live scoring of the game can be accessed at www.ukathletics.com beginning with first pitch at 6 p.m. EST. The contest also features the return of the celebriduck to Cliff Hagan Stadium, which will be given to the first 200 fans in attendance at the game.
