The University of Kentucky women’s golf team shot a 21-over-par round of 309 to stand in eighth place after round one of the 54-hole Southeastern Conference Championship, played at the University Club of Kentucky’s par-72, 6,153-yard “Big Blue” course on Friday.

Senior Rachel Lester led the Wildcats with a four-over-par round of 76 to end the day placed in a tie for 20th overall. Senior Kelly Anders and sophomore Lauren George both carded rounds of 77, one stroke behind Lester.

Kentucky’s fourth score came from sophomore Stacy Springer, who shot a seven-over total of 79, which included an eagle on the par-5, 509-yard 16th hole. Junior Eva Gessner was 10-over on the day.

The Wildcats will begin the second round at 9:50 a.m. on Saturday, April 19, from the first tee.
