ATHENS, Ga. – Kentucky sophomore Jesse Witten saw his run in the NCAA Men’s Singles Championships come to an end Thursday at the University of Georgia’s Lindsey Hopkins Indoor Courts. The ninth-ranked Witten fell to Stanford’s 49th-ranked K.C. Corkery 6-1, 6-0. Witten wraps up the 2002-03 season with a 29-16 singles record.

In the first set, Corkery, behind a powerful serve, quickly jumped out to a 5-0 lead. Witten rebounded in the set’s sixth game, never surrendering a point, though Corkery closed out the set shortly thereafter, 6-1.

Corkery proceeded to sweep the second set in quick fashion, allowing Witten only nine points in the set, finishing off the 2002 NCAA runner-up in less than an hour.

Witten ends his first two years as a Wildcat with a 65-30 singles record.
