Lexington, Ky. –

Departed Kentucky catcher/outfielder Caleb Brock has been signed by the Cleveland Indians and assigned to Burlington (N.C.) of the Appalachian League. Brock is a non-drafted free agent who finished his career at UK in 2003.

Brock hit .291 this spring, recording nine doubles and driving in 21 runs. He enjoyed a team-high 14-game hitting streak from April 20 through May 11. Brock came to Kentucky after a two-year stint at Lincoln Trail Community College in Robinson, Ill. Prior to that he was a three-sport star at Whitesburg High School in Whitesburg, Ky.

Brock becomes the 85th player from UK to sign a professional contract since 1979. Earlier this spring teammate Heath Castle was drafted by the New York Yankees in the 16th round of the Major League Baseball amateur draft.
