The University of Kentucky women’s golf team faces another tough schedule in 2003-04, as the season slate was released Friday by coach Stephanie Barker. The Cats are looking to build on a successful end to the 2003 campaign, which saw the Cats finish in the top 10 in three tournaments.
UK begins its 2003 fall schedule with trips to the College of Charleston in Charleston, S.C., for the Cougar Fall Classic, and Vanderbilt University for the Mason Rudolph Women’s Championship before playing host to the Wildcat Fall Invitational. The tournament, formerly known as the Lady Kat Invitational, is played at the University Club of Kentucky. After hosting the tournament for 20 consecutive years, the Cats are holding the invitatonal for the second year in a row following a four-year hiatus that began in 1997. The Cats finish the 2003 fall schedule with the 2003 ACC/SEC Challenge, which features 12 of the top teams from the two conferences, and the Ross Resorts Invitational in Pinehurst, N.C.
The Cats tee-off the spring portion of their schedule in February with a trip to Las Croabas, Puerto Rico to participate in the N.C. State Island Classic. Three tournaments get underway in March, including the 2004 LSU/Cleveland Golf Classic, which is being held at the same site as the 2004 SEC Championships. If the Cats qualify for NCAA Tournament action, they will travel to Stetson University for the NCAA East Regionals, while the NCAA Championships are scheduled for May 18-21 at Auburn.
The Cats will be led by Barker, who is in her third year as coach of the women’s golf team. Barker, who was formerly Stephanie Martin, was married in July.
