LEXINGTON, Ky. – The University of Kentucky volleyball team held its annual Blue/White Scrimmage on Sunday, Aug. 24 in Memorial Coliseum. The blue squad won the four-game event, with senior Sissy Canfield’s 11 kills and .714 hitting percentage leading the way for the team.

Also competing well in the match was senior Liz McCaslin, who totaled 15 kills on the day with 20 digs, splitting time between the two teams. Newcomer Melissa Popp had 12 kills and 11 digs in total, while junior Sarah Spinner chalked up 14 kills and eight digs on the day.

Setter Leigh Marcum had a good overall game, with 36 assists, seven digs and two blocks, while assistant coach Katie Eiserman recorded four kills, 26 assists and 11 digs while setting for the White team. Overall on the day, the Blue team hit .205 to the White squad’s .061.

Kentucky opens the 2003 regular-season schedule on Friday, Aug. 29 at the Wake Forest Demon Deacon Invitational in Winston-Salem, N.C. The Wildcats take on host WFU at 7 p.m. on Friday and face Southern Methodist and Tennessee Tech on Saturday.

The Wildcats will open the home schedule on Friday, Sept. 12 with the Kentucky Conference Challenge. The round-robin tournament features Virginia, Syracuse and Wright State and runs through Sat., Sept. 13. UK will play on Friday night at 7 p.m. against Syracuse and Saturday at 12:30 p.m. against Wright State and 7 p.m. vs. Virginia.
