Lexington, Ky. – Nastassia Alcius (pronounced na-STASHA al-SEE-us) is the newest member of the Wildcats’ women’s basketball team after playing one season at Dayton, Kentucky Coach Mickie DeMoss announced. Alcius will sit out the 2003-04 season due to NCAA rules for transfers but will have three years of eligibility remaining.

“We think she’ll be a great addition to our team,” DeMoss said. “I spoke with other coaches around the Atlantic 10 conference about her, and they said she has amazing potential.”

Alcius, a 5-8 guard, was named to the pre-season Atlantic 10 All-Rookie team and went on to play in 26 games, earning a starting assignment in the final four games of the season. She averaged 13.3 minutes and 4.2 points for the Lady Flyers and charted a career-high 17 points vs. George Washington.

The Lexington native had a stellar prep career at Henry Clay High School where she helped the Blue Devils compile a combined 87-31 record over four years. In her senior season, Alcius guided her team to a 26-3 record and averaged a team-high 19.1 points and 4.4 rebounds a game. She was a first team All-State and first team All-Conference selection and also was named to the Kentucky All-Star team. Alcius was considered one of the top 100 seniors in the class of 2002 by All-Star Girls Report.
