Versailles, Ky. – The University of Kentucky men’s cross country team opened its 2003 season with a first-place victory at the Woodford Trials on Friday in Versailles, Ky. The host Cats had six of the top-10 finishers in the 3.2-mile run, taking the title with a score of 26 after defeating Eastern Kentucky (53), Louisville (58) and Marshall (99).
Kentucky junior David Freeman led all runners with a time of 16:19.30, more than five seconds better than EKU’s Steve Maina. UK’s John Richardson crossed the finish line with a fourth-place time of 16.27.70, while teammates Thomas Morgan (16:33.40), Hunter Spencer (16:36.10), Mark Rowe (16:36.20) and Chris Millisor (16:41.80) rounded out the top-ten for the Cats.
The cross country team will be back in action on Saturday, Sept. 20, when they travel to Bowling Green, Ky. for the Western Kentucky Oldtimers Classic.
