The 24th-ranked UK women’s soccer team fell behind on two separate occasions Sunday but managed to tie the match each time as the Cats registered a 2-2 tie with eighth-ranked Duke in the final day of the Nike Carolina Classic in Chapel Hill, N.C.

Duke got on the board early when Kate Seibert headed in Carolyn Ford’s free kick in the seventh minute. The Blue Devils (3-0-1) took the lead into the half, but Kentucky’s Elizabeth Ramsey, a natural right-footed kicker, booted in a left-footed goal from 20 yards out, beating Duke goalkeeper Kate Straka for her third goal of the season. The Devils reclaimed the lead 23 seconds after they surrendered their 1-0 lead when Carolyn Ford drilled a 25-yard free kick past Kentucky goalkeeper Anne Ogundele for a 2-1 Duke margin.

The Wildcats’ Jessica Laswell re-tied the game for Kentucky by heading in a Jamie Hutchison corner kick in the 80th minute for her second goal of the season. Ogundele produced a flawless overtime showing to preserve the tie with five saves on the day. The tie is Kentucky’s first since a 2-2 battle with Indiana on Nov. 4, 2001.

Kentucky (2-1-1) returns home next weekend to play host to the UK Invitational on Sept. 12 and 13 at the UK Soccer Complex. Friday, the Cats welcome BYU, a 1-0 winner over No. 7 Tennessee on Sept. 5. The UK-BYU match will follow the first half of the UKIT, a 5:00 p.m. match between Rutgers and Iowa.
