KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. – The Kentucky men’s golf team opens its fall season at the Cleveland Golf/Kiawah Island Intercollegiate in Kiawah Island, S.C. The two-day tournament will tee-off at the Turtle Point, Kiawah Island Resort Monday, Sept. 8 and concludes on Tuesday, Sept. 9.
UK is led by junior all-American John Holmes who tied for 16th at the 2003 NCAA Championships. Holmes has garnered national recognition in the past three months. He qualified for the 103rd U.S. Open Championship in June, won the Kentucky Open in early August and earned medalist honors at the 2003 U.S. Amateur Championships in late August.
The Cats finished sixth at Kiawah Island in 2002 and shot a team total 901 in three rounds. Former UK golfer Ryan Coyne and junior Brandon Waldrop finished tied for 10th at last year’s tournament at 5-over-par 221. The tournament marked Waldrop’s debut as a Wildcat after transferring from Western Kentucky University.
