Saturday afternoon at the HEB-Baylor Fall Invitational in Waco, Tex. saw the emergence of Kentucky’s Aibika Kalsarieva on the collegiate tennis scene. Kalsarieva, a junior transfer from Lewis & Clark State College of the NAIA, defeated 29th-ranked Dianna Hollands of Arizona, the top-seeded player in the green singles bracket, by a 6-1, 7-6 count. Kalsarieva will battle second-seeded Petra Dizdar of Texas in Sunday’s final.

In doubles play, Kalsarieva teamed up with UK freshman Sarah Foster to advance to the doubles final of the gold bracket. The pair posted an 8-3 victory over Iva Mihaylova and Izabela Mijic of Baylor and will take on Baylor’s Stephanie Balzert and Daria Potapova Sunday at 9 a.m. CDT.

In singles consolation play, junior Danielle Petrisko scored two easy victories and will advance to the consolation semifinals of the green bracket. Freshmen Lara Maurer and Joelle Schwenk posted four victories collectively and also will advance to the consolation semifinals in the gold bracket. Maurer and Schwenk also competed as a doubles pair and defeated opponents from SMU and Arizona, respectively, and advance to the finals of the green doubles consolation bracket.

UK Coach Mark Guilbeau reveled in the success of his young Wildcats.

“As a coach, these student-athletes are so refreshing to work with, and it’s nice to see the work they’ve put in thus far reflected in their results,” Guilbeau said.
