Kentucky punter Anthony Thornton was named SEC Special Teams Player of the Week for his performance in Saturday’s 34-17 win over Indiana.

A junior from Louisville, Thornton punted seven times for a career-best 46.3-yard average, including a career-long 58-yard punt. In the third quarter, he had a 53-yard punt downed at the Indiana four-yard line, helping give Kentucky great field position on its next possession, setting up a 51-yard Wildcat touchdown drive.

Thornton’s punts also had excellent hang time. Indiana managed just 12 punt return yards, giving UK a team net average of 44.6 yards per punt.

For the season, Thornton has improved his average to 42.2 yards per punt, ranking third in the Southeastern Conference.
