Wildcats Conclude Regular Season at No. 9/7 LSU on Sunday
BATON ROUGE, La. – The University of Kentucky women’s basketball program will play No. 9/7 LSU on Sunday, March 3 at 2 p.m. ET at the Pete Maravich Assembly Center in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. It will mark the program’s final regular-season game of the season.
The game will be broadcast on SEC Network, with Eric Frede and Christy Thomaskutty on the call. Big Blue Nation also can listen in to the play-by-play on UK Sports Network and / or 630 AM WLAP (locally), with the Voice of the Wildcats, Darren Headrick on the mic.
UK currently holds an 11-18 record, including a 4-11 mark in the league. The Wildcats will have concluded the regular season by facing the top three teams in the league, including against No. 1/1 South Carolina last Sunday, against RV/NR Ole Miss last Thursday and at No. 9/7 LSU this Sunday.
Kentucky is two games removed from a two-game winning streak in the league, defeating Florida, 81-77, on Feb. 18 and at Mississippi State, 78-68, on Feb. 22. Those wins helped the team improve to 12th in the league standings, with the Southeastern Conference Tournament set to commence Wednesday, March 6.
Ajae Petty, an All-SEC caliber forward, continues to lead the team in scoring (14.4) and rebounding (10.3). In fact, she has led UK in scoring in a team-lead 12 games this season and in rebounding in a team-lead 26 games in 2023-24. The Baltimore, Maryland, native needs just 17 more rebounds to eclipse 500 career rebounds, while she also just moved into 10th on UK’s all-time, single-season rebounds list (299) and tied for seventh on UK’s all-time, single-season rebounds per game list (10.3).
The Wildcats are balanced in their scoring effort, with Maddie Scherr putting up 12.7 points per game game, while Eniya Russell and Saniah Tyler come off the bench to produce 9.9 points per game apiece. The Cats have averaged 32.3 bench points over the last four games, while they rank third in the league with 21.4 bench points overall this season.
Kentucky trails the all-time meetings with LSU, 36-18, in a series that began in 1982. UK also trails LSU, 16-5, in games played in Baton Rouge.
The Wildcats will look for their first win over the Tigers in Baton Rouge since January 2019.
LSU is 25-4 this season, including 15-1 at home. The Tigers, who are riding a seven-game winning streak, have six players averaging double-digit scoring, including team-leader Angel Reese (19.0). Reese, also a Baltimore, Maryland, native, also leads her team in rebounds (13.0). LSU leads the SEC and is second in the nation in scoring offense, averaging 88.2 points per game, while it also tops the league and is second in the nation in rebounding (47.2).
