Men's Golf

Former basketball player J.P. Blevins called to tell us about a former Wildcat who is in need of help. Philip Schardein is a former UK men’s golfer who earned Academic All-SEC honors three-straight years. He was diagnosed with leukemia in May and received a bone marrow transplant from a family member in July. Unfortunately, the transplant was rejected, so doctors treating him at Houston’s M.D. Anderson Hospital are now seeking another bone marrow transplant from a non-relative.

The screening to find this donor costs as much as $100 per person and isn’t covered by insurance. Phillip’s family and friends are asking for two things: 1. for financial assistance to defray the costs of finding the donor, and 2. people who are willing to donate.

This is an opportunity for the UK Family to come together to help one of our own. If you are able to help in any way, please contact Lynne Martin or Lou Beckner in Bowling Green (270) 781-4222, or you can call Philip’s mother, Lisa Leachman, at (270) 792-4050.

Let’s be sure and keep Phillip and his family in our prayers …

Sincerely,

UK Athletics Director Mitch Barnhart
