The University of Kentucky rifle team split a pair of weekend matches in Fairbanks, Alas. against Nebraska and Alaska-Fairbanks. The Cats notched their second win of the season Friday against Nebraska by a 6183-6121 count before falling to five-time defending NCAA champion Alaska-Fairbanks, 6235-6204 on Saturday.

Senior All-American Bradley Wheeldon led the way each day for Kentucky with aggregate scores of 1570 and 1565 against the Cornhuskers and Nanooks, respectively.

Though disappointed with the loss, Kentucky coach Harry Mullins is pleased with his team’s performance in Fairbanks.

“We always compete to win, but we had some quality performances this weekend. Our scores jumped on the second day against Alaska-Fairbanks after a difficult match the day before against Nebraska, so, all in all, we had a solid weekend,” Mullins said.

The Cats (2-1) return to the range on Sunday, Nov. 9 against Murray State in Lexington.
