Kentucky juniors Tigran Martirosyan and Jesse Witten each tallied victories during the opening day of the SEC Indoor Championships in Athens, Ga. Martirosyan claimed two wins while Witten earned one to advance to the round of 16.

Martirosyan, the tournament?s 14th-seeded player, began the round of 64 with a defeat of Ole Miss? Erik Claesson by a 6-3, 3-6, 6-3 count. Martirosyan set down Georgia?s Matic Omerzel, 6-2, 6-1 to advance to Saturday?s competition where he?ll face No. 27 Matt Lockin of Vanderbilt.

After a first-round bye, Witten made short work of Auburn?s Nick Lane, winning 6-3, 6-0. Witten will meet Vanderbilt?s 55th-ranked Chad Harris on Saturday.
