The Kentucky track and field teams took home top honors in six events at the Rod McCravy Memorial on Jan. 30-31 at the Nutter Field House in Lexington, Ky. One of those events included the women?s distance medley relay squad which broke a school record that has stood for more than 17 years.
Three of the members of the women’s distance medley team that set a school record on Friday, fared well in the mile run on Saturday as three Cats finished in the top five. Brooke Patterson, Caitlin Phillips and Beth Heimann all provisionally qualified for the NCAA?s in the event while smashing personal bests. Phillips? previous time of 4:55.97 was broken by more than 10 seconds, as the senior crossed the finish line in a fourth-place time of 4:45.40. Patterson came in second in 4:44.55 and Heimann came in a time of 4:47.67.
The Kentucky women sprinters all enjoyed success at the meet, as Talonda Ingram came in first place in the 200-meter and 60-meter dashes, including a personal best time 7.55 in the 60 meters. Olobusola Adeagbo finished in second in both the 60-meter hurdles and the 400-meter dash, where she broke a personal best record in a time of 56.34. Freshman Jackie Gordon finished right behind Adeagbo in the 400 meters with a third-place time of 56.56.
The Kentucky men also had a strong showing in distance events, as Kris Landers came in first among active college runners with a personal-best time of 4:08.97 in the mile run. Thomas Morgan, who ran with the Kentucky Milers Club, finished in first place, while Justin Amason and Ryan DeLuca also posted top-10 finishes for the Cats in the event. James Doaty captured a first-place finish of his own in the 800-meter run in 1:51.96.
The Cats rounded out their top finishes in the field events, as Jeff Chakouian won the shot put with a toss of 63-02.75, more than eight feet from his closest challenger. Rachel Kohler topped all competitors in the high jump with a 5-06.00 mark and Kristen Mowrey garnered a fourth-place finish in the same event.
UK returns to action Feb. 6-7, when they travel to South Bend, Ind., and Lincoln, Neb., for the Notre Dame Meyo Invitational and the Frank Sevigne Husker Invitational. Results will be available after each meet at www.ukathletics.com.
