LEXINGTON, Ky. – No. 19 Kentucky recovered from a lost doubles point by winning four singles matches to claim a 4-3 victory over No. 39 Ohio State Wednesday at UK?s Boone Indoor Tennis Center. The Cats move to 12-6 on the season while the Buckeyes fall to 5-4.

Ohio State scored an easy doubles win at No. 1 and a tiebreaker victory at No. 2 to earn the doubles point. However, Kentucky soon fought back to even the score. UK freshman Joelle Schwenk turned in a dominant performance at No. 3, tallying a 6-0, 6-1 win over OSU?s Jackie Leskovar. UK?s Aibika Kalsarieva followed suit at No. 1 with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Lindsay Williams to give Kentucky a 2-1 lead. The Buckeyes? Lindsey Adams tied the score with a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 5 over Liis Sober.

UK freshman Lara Maurer, a Bay Village, Ohio native, turned in a gutsy performance at the No. 2 position against her home-state Buckeyes. After dropping the first set, 6-4, and trailing in the second set, 4-2, to Ohio State?s Jackie Leskovar, Maurer continued to be hampered by a nagging ankle injury and appeared on her way to a straight-set defeat. Maurer refused to give in and ran off four consecutive games, sending the match to a third set. Maurer and Fisk waged a fierce battle in the final set before Maurer emerged with a 6-4 win, giving the Cats a lead they kept for themselves. UK freshman Sarah Foster rebounded from a first-set loss to take the second set, 6-2, and captured the final set in a tiebreaker to deliver the Kentucky win.

The Cats will take some time off before returning to the courts next Friday, Mar. 19 at LSU.
