University of Kentucky junior Daniel Cruz turned in solid performances this weekend at the Counsilman Classic in Indianapolis, an event featuring several of the world?s top swimmers.
Cruz, who placed third in the 200-meter butterfly last month at the NCAA Championships, took second in the 200-meter butterfly with a time of 1:58.58. The only competitor to top Cruz was Tom Malchow, who won gold in the event at the 2000 Summer Olympic Games in Sydney, Australia. Malchow turned in a time of 1:57.16. UK junior Jerram Chudleigh took sixth place in 2:03.79. Cruz also took fourth in the 100-meter butterfly with a time of 54.59. Chudleigh placed ninth at 54.83 and UK junior Tim Patrick took 18th place with a time of 56.32.
Kentucky sophomore Steven Manley took sixth in the 200-meter freestyle with a time of 1:52.12. The Irishman placed 10th in this event at the NCAA Championships. A Wildcat trio took part in the 50-meter freestyle, as the aforementioned Patrick took seventh in 23.29 and sophomore Daniel Farnham and junior Clay Gasparovich took 11th and 17th, respectively.
UK sophomore Laura Graham placed eighth in the 100-meter breaststroke, clocking a 1:12.38. Former Wildcat Rachel Komisarz placed fourth in the 100-meter butterfly with a time of 59.93.
