Murray, Ky. ? The Kentucky women?s golf team won the team title Tuesday at the Big River Telephone Lady Racer Classic in Murray, Ky. The Cats edged out host Murray State by one shot thanks to a second-place finish from sophomore Ali Kicklighter.
Kicklighter shot the best three rounds of her career and was a mere five shots from taking medalist honors at the Miller Golf Course after carding a 79 in the third and final round. Teammate Eva Gessner, who went into the last 18 holes tied for first, ended the tournament in a tie for third with a 56-hole score of 231, one shot behind Kicklighter. Two other Cats placed among the top 10, as Marissa Muir and Emily Culbertson finished in fifth and seventh places, respectively, while Katie Dixon wasn?t far behind in 11th.
Cuyler Hedley of MSU took home medalist honors for the tournament with a nine-over 225. The Racers almost took the title from UK after shooting a team score of 309 Tuesday, but the Cats? four-shot lead after two rounds proved to be too much to overcome.
Erin Faukner also competed as an individual for UK, coming in 18th with a three-round total of 242.
The Cats return to action April 16-18 at the Southeastern Conference Championships in Baton Rouge, La.
