NASHVILLE, Tenn. – A strong SEC Tournament showing came to an end Saturday for No. 21 Kentucky, as host No. 3 Vanderbilt, the tournament?s second seed, eliminated the sixth-seeded Cats by way of a 4-0 victory at Vanderbilt?s Brownlee O. Currey Tennis Center. Vanderbilt goes on to face top-seeded Florida in Sunday?s SEC Tournament final.

Vanderbilt struck first at the No. 2 doubles slot. Kentucky?s Kim Coventry and Lara Maurer and Vanderbilt?s Audra Falk and Annie Menees each held serve until the ?Dores broke the Cats? serve at the seventh game. Kentucky won one more game before Vanderbilt emerged with an 8-4 win. At No. 3, UK?s Joelle Schwenk and Caroline Winebrenner fell behind 6-3 only to come back and tie the set at six. Vanderbilt?s Amanda Fish and Ashley Schellhas took the final two games to clinch the doubles point. UK?s Aibika Kalsarieva and Sarah Foster held a 6-3 lead at No. 1 over Vandy?s Kelly Schmandt and Aleke Tsoubanos, though the match was suspended upon Vandy?s doubles point claim.

Vanderbilt?s doubles success stretched well into singles play. Vandy?s Fish put the ?Dores up 2-0 with a 6-3, 6-1 win at No. 4 over UK?s Maurer. Under a minute later, VU stretched its lead to 3-0 when Schellhas defeated Coventry by a 6-3, 6-2 count. VU?s Falk clinched the match shortly thereafter with a 6-4, 6-2 defeat of UK?s Kalsarieva.

UK?s Foster had a one set and 3-2 second-set lead over Vandy?s Schmandt at No. 2 singles and UK freshman Christine Simpson held a one set and 4-3 second-set lead at No. 6 before Vanderbilt clinched the match.

The Cats now will take some time off to prepare for the NCAA Tournament. The NCAA will announce its selections on May 6.
