NASHVILLE, Tenn. – No. 15 Kentucky (17-8, 7-4) begins its post-season run Friday when the Cats meet No. 13 LSU (17-5, 7-4) in the SEC Men?s Tennis Tournament quarterfinals at Vanderbilt?s Brownlee O. Currey Tennis Center. The match is slated for 8 a.m. CDT, and live match scoring will be available at www.vucommodores.com.
Kentucky and LSU met under the same scenario at the 2003 SEC Tournament in Oxford, Miss. Ole Miss. As is the case this year, the Cats were the fourth seed and the Tigers the fifth seed. Kentucky won the doubles point and went on to a 4-1 victory to avenge a 4-2 regular-season loss. Earlier this season in Lexington, 18th-ranked Kentucky dealt No. 14 LSU a 6-1 defeat.
Kentucky was the last team to defeat LSU in doubles play; the Tigers have captured 10-consecutive doubles points. LSU features two ranked doubles tandems in Bryan Fisher and Jason Hazley at No. 16 and Sebastian Rutka and Cory Ross at No. 44. LSU earned a trip to the quarterfinals after a 4-0 opening-round win Thursday morning over 12th-seeded Alabama.
A Wildcat win Friday would set up Kentucky?s second meeting this week with SEC Regular-Season Champion Ole Miss.
