A pair of University of Kentucky student-athletes, rifle?s Melody Cook and baseball pitcher Seth Stanley, were awarded the 2004 State Farm Insurance Post-Graduate Scholarships for their academic achievements, their commitment to community service and their athletic participation.

Cook, a Eubank, Ky., native, is completing her bachelor of business administration degree in accounting and management. Upon graduation Cook will continue her education at the University of Kentucky, pursuing a master?s degree in business administration. Cook is a four-year rifle letterwinner and started on Kentucky?s 2001 and 2002 NCAA runner-up teams. Also a Singletary Scholar award recipient, she is a member of the SEC Academic Honor Roll and UK?s prestigious Frank G. Ham Society of Character.

A native of Henderson, Ky., Stanley is currently completing a bachelor of arts degree in elementary school education. Upon graduation, Stanley will pursue a graduate degree in the field of education with aspirations of becoming an elementary school principal.

Cook and Stanley were recognized at a luncheon at the Boone Faculty Club on the UK campus. Also announced at the luncheon were the recipients of the State Farm Insurance Scholar-Athlete of the Month awards. There were designed to recognize those individuals that achieved academic and athletic excellence, contributed to the community and had been involved in various student activities and organizations throughout the year.

Making the presentations were Mike Brownell, Stewart Perry and Dick Perry of State Farm and Catherine Edelen and Jennifer Royalty of WKYT television. WKYT assists the program by publicizing the monthly winners. Listed below are the 2003-04 award recipients.
