FORT WAYNE, Ind. ? The Michigan State men?s soccer team scored a pair of second half goals to score a 2-0 victory over Kentucky in an exhibition game on Saturday night at the IPFW Soccer Showcase.

John Kaczmarek found John Minagawa-Webster in the box in the 57th minute and Minagawa-Webster beat Wildcat goalkeeper Andy Gruenebaum to give the Spartans a 1-0 lead.

Joe Fourre found the back of the net in the 72nd minute on an unassisted goal for the final margin.

The teams played a scoreless first half in sloppy conditions after it rained all day in Fort Wayne. Kentucky controlled play for the first 20 minutes of the game, but could not convert that into many scoring chances.

Following the opening 20, Michigan State had a number of opportunities but Gruenebaum came up big with four first half saves. He finished with seven saves overall.

Each team made substitutions early and often in the game. The Spartans played 20 players while the Wildcats used 19. Both teams used two goalkeepers.

Kentucky?s best scoring chance came in the second half when the game was still scoreless. Anthony Peters, open in front of the net, was unable to put enough on the shot to get it past a diving Chris Austin, who made four second half saves.

Ten minutes later, after Michigan State?s first goal, Jamal Shteiwi had a shot go just wideafter a magnificent run through the middle of the Spartan half of the field.

In the 88th minute, Shteiwi had another chance, but again pushed the shot wide after beating two Spartan defenders.

Each team ended up with 14 shots, but Michigan State had 10 on goal compared to just five for Kentucky.

The Wildcats retu rn to action on Monday when they face second-ranked St. John?s at Noon. The Red Storm reached the national championship game last season.

The game will be a reunion of sorts for Kentucky head coach Ian Collins. He spent three years as an assistant under Dave Masur at St. John?s before coming to Kentucky.
