Kentucky junior Steven Manley placed 14th in the 45-competitor 200-meter freestyle field Thursday at the 2004 FINA Short Course World Championships at Conseco Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, Ind.

Manley, an All-American from Dublin, Ireland, clocked a time of 1:48.62 in the preliminary round and finished out of the event final by less than a second.

Manley owns individual school records in the 200 and 500-yard freestyle events and the 200-yard individual medley. He co-owns the school mark in the 800-meter freestyle relay. Manley and the rest of the Kentucky swimmers and divers begin their 2004-05 season on Oct. 23 against Michigan State at UK?s Lancaster Aquatic Center.
