LEXINGTON, Ky. ? The nationally ranked Kentucky men?s golf program has signed Andy Winings and Kentucky native Jordan Blann to national letters of intent, UK coach Brian Craig announced Wednesday. Winings, one of Indiana?s top high school golfers, advanced to the sectional of the U.S Open as a sophomore, and Blann is a two-time All-State member.
Winings, a Brownsburg, Ind., native, attends Brownsburg High School and has accrued numerous honors during his prep career. Winings qualified for the U.S. Junior Amateur this year and tied for third at the AJGA Midwest Junior Championship. In 2003 and 2004, he qualified for the Westfield PGA Junior Championship, finishing tied for seventh in 2003. He also claimed a third-place finish at the AJGA Memorial Junior Championship this year.
“I am thrilled that Andy has decided to join our UK men’s golf program,? Craig said. ?I honestly believe that he has the biggest upside of any junior player that I have seen play in a long time. He has excellent fundamentals in every aspect of his game and is very long with the driver. I love his passion for the game and his competitiveness. I look forward to Andy having a distinguished career as a member of our Wildcat Family.?
Blann hails from Bowling Green Ky., and attended Bowling Green High School. There he has recorded eight first-place finishes in high school invitationals, and is a three-time Kentucky Tri-State Golf Team selection. He also has won over 35 junior golf events and was honored as a Past Future Collegians World Tour Honorable Mention All-American.
“Jordan is exactly the type of student-athlete that I want in our program,? Craig said. ?He is an excellent student, has great character and has a game that is ready to develop into a top-tier player in the SEC. He is extremely long off the tee and has the ability to dominate a golf course with his ball striking. I am looking forward to helping Jordan develop his skills and have a wonderful career as a Wildcat.?
The duo will join the team for the Fall 2005 season.
