Kentucky sophomore Taryn Ignacio has been named the SEC Women?s Diver of the Week on the heels of a record-breaking performance last Saturday against Arkansas and Louisville.
The Richmond, Ky., native out of Model H.S. broke Sarah Fields? five-year-old school record in the three-meter event with a score of 316.60, besting Fields? mark by over seven points. Ignacio?s three-meter effort also broke the Lancaster Aquatic Center record held by former Cat Kelli Frost. Ignacio beat the two-year-old pool record by an even 10 points. The performance marked the best dual-meet score in the Southeastern Conference this season. Ignacio also captured the women?s one-meter event Saturday against the Cards and the Lady ?Backs.
Ignacio is in her first season at Kentucky after competing at Florida State a season ago. She placed 11th on the platform at last summer?s U.S. Olympic Trials after taking 15th on the platform and 25th in the three-meter event at the 2004 NCAA Championships.
